Basic Operator Course

The Tactical Use of the Rook – Basic Operator Course is a comprehensive 24-hour (3-day) advanced training program designed to prepare law enforcement tactical personnel for the safe, effective, and legally compliant deployment of the Rook Armored Critical Incident Vehicle in high-risk operational environments.

COURSE INSTRUCTION AND EVALUATION

Instruction combines technical vehicle proficiency with tactical integration principles, ensuring operators can confidently deploy the platform while maintaining officer safety, operational discipline, and mission effectiveness.

Participants receive structured instruction in:

  • Vehicle operation and maneuvering 

  • Safety procedures and operational protocols 

  • Pre-deployment inspections and maintenance 

  • Tactical positioning and ballistic protection 

  • Breaching support operations 

  • Rescue and extraction capabilities 

  • Command and control integration 

The course emphasizes interoperability between Rook operators, SWAT personnel, breachers, tactical medics, negotiators, and multi-agency response teams.

All practical exercises are reinforced through structured debriefings and after-action reviews to enhance learning and operational accountability.

Evaluation is performance-based and includes:

  • Pre-deployment safety procedures 

  • Operational execution and vehicle control 

  • Tactical communication effectiveness 

  • Scenario performance and mission outcomes

To successfully complete the course, participants must demonstrate safe vehicle operation under stress, successfully complete all operational checklists, and achieve a minimum passing score of 80% during graded practical evaluations.
